I didn't pick my camera up a single time this week. I missed it, but some weeks are just like that. I used to think I couldn't honestly consider myself an artist unless I picked up the camera or paintbrush on a daily basis. Now I think differently. Work started back this week and so that was my focus. I did snap a few things on my phone I wanted to share. Storytelling and memory saving matter deeply to me. I like the practice of blogging or sharing on IG, writing in my journal, and creating in my art journal. I like the rosy trail it leaves. How about you? Do you journal or blog your way through life?
You all, I really need to clean my mirror but if you've been around here for long you know that's nothing new. I used to faithfully post my outfits but have gotten out of the habit. I intend to clean that mirror up and start again! I have so many outfit ideas saved on Pinterest and one of my favorite shows still is What Not to Wear (reruns). It's finally clicked for me that there is a connection between the effort I put into myself/how I dress and my confidence.
Outfit details: Cardigan (can't think of the proper word for these) is from Pioneer Woman's shop.
Turtleneck-thrifted, a Target brand
Jeans-Wal-mart!
Shoes-Lotta's , my most favorite shoe EVER. Ever.
A group of moms and I are training for a race in June. It's a women only race and will involve running and biking. This is WAY out of my comfort zone but I'm on about Week 6 of training I believe and am surprisingly loving it! My goal is to run 3 days a week. The biking just happens on the weekends when I can fit it in. It should be easier to practice once spring arrives.
I have a path I walk/run around my yard and pasture and I snapped these while exercising last week. Morley is my running buddy. She runs just ahead of me and it feels nice to have a friend along.
I have two work days a week planned for running. To help me actually accomplish this I lay my exercise stuff out the night before and get changed and start jogging as soon as I walk in the door.
Another outfit I liked! The top knot is baaaack and here to stay.
Outfit details:
Jacket and shirt-thrifted
Necklace-??
Scarf-gift from my mom-in-law
Shoes-Purchased from Amazon. LOVE these shoes! They are incredibly comfortable. The "fur" has worn down where my pants rub the top but I am very, very pleased with the quality.
Last, but certainly not least, check out these dreams from my sweet students!
We began to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. last week and I introduced the idea of having a dream for yourself, family, school, or world. The students then each got a sticky note to draw or write their dream on. I was so incredibly inspired by their responses!
So, life is back in full swing. After reading To Hell with the Hustle I have really been thinking hard about where I want my time, energy, and money to go. Man, this book was so good. I am starting grad school in two days and so I've tried to create a schedule that is very intentional about giving myself some margin. This means I'm going to start cooking from Cook Once Eat All Week for meals 3 nights a week, I have the freezer loaded with food already made for another night, and then I'll utilize the slow-cooker one night a week as well.
It also means my exercise is scheduled for two days a week, with an extra weekend workout. Menu planning and grocery pick-up are scheduled weekly too. If this sounds awful and like no fun, I promise you it's not. I remember reading something of Lisa Congdon's one time basically stating that creative people are some of the most disciplined even though we get a bad rap in the public eye. She is a favorite artist of mine and I couldn't agree more. The truth is these little routines make life go pretty smoothly around here. If a day turns stressful or I need a quick nap or quiet time before starting to study, I can do that because I can easily pull a meal from the freezer. Staying just a step ahead of my life has made a tremendous difference in my stress and anxiety level. So has magnesium! Do y'all take this? I drink it twice daily (it's a powder you mix with water) and the level of calm I have in response is very noticeable.
Creating routines means I feel like I have the power back over my own life.
It also means it frees up more time for the small joys in life like doing my nails, creating in my art journal, cooking for fun, and reading for pleasure.
What are your thoughts? Are you a scheduler by nature or do you work hard at it like me?
How was your week? Did you start back to school/routine?
What was rosy for you this week?
I'm so glad you're here.
