DIY Spring Tablescape

Tablescape: (as defined by Your Dictionary.com) "An artistic arrangement of articles on a table".

I've almost never met a tablescape I didn't like.  There's just something about  an artful arrangement plus food plus people I love around a table.  Add all those together and I almost can't imagine a bigger thrill.  This weekend we had the honor of hosting family for the first time ever on Easter!  Yippee! I love hosting and decorating and immediately gathered a pile of this and that from my prop stash to create a pretty table with.

This is what I came up with!  I first laid down the green tablecloth (thrifted, as most of these things are) and then put some Rifle paper and scrapbook paper on top.  The next part was creating all those wonderful layers!
A couple of things I keep in mind when creating an artful display are height and texture.  I try to always have varying heights of things in the display so that the eye is given many places to look.  I also like to include different textures (such as books, plants, hankies, etc.) in the arrangement too!
All of these lovely finds, with the exception of the pink tulips, were found on the farm!

I added in my Chirp china and that was that.  A tablescape was made!
One of the biggest reasons I'm able to pull together such a table is that I keep tons of props on hand, all the time.  As I'm thrifting I keep an eye out for items that I love and that can serve many purposes.   For example, coffee mugs and tea cups are great for hot drinks obviously, but they also make cute planters, treat holders, craft supply holders, etc.

Colorful, old books are always a good thing to have on hand because they're interesting to look at and an easy way to add some height to your table!  A little bit of spray paint goes a long way too!  If you see a container or basket you like but don't like the color, simply give it a quick spray.

Brett captured this of me (without me knowing) and I must say it's probably a favorite picture of myself.  There are a handful of times when all of me is at my happiest....from the tip-top of my head all the way down to my feet.  Getting my hands right in the middle of something creative is most definitely a "happy all over."

It felt so good to be loving on the people around me with my hobbies and passions.

I "directed" (a.k.a. sweet bossing) Brett exactly how to take these pictures with my hands and the moss because I could just see the final result in my mind.

Didn't he do well?!?!?!? He also helped me TONS this week getting the house ready for Easter.  I couldn't appreciate him more! (and have told him so a million times)
Now off you go, to gather this and that....and make an artful arrangement of your own!
The world is full of beauty that's just waiting for us to notice!
(and something about this Easter made me want to run up and down the streets yelling HE's ALIVE! We can do ALL things through Christ! We can do hard things! We can be filled with joy! He's alive!)

(I'll be back with the most special part of the whole Easter day....the people that surrounded our table)

  1. I LOVE the moss in the teacup! Moss is one of my favorite plants, if you can call it a plant. It is probably a fungi. I'll have to go look it up...

  4. Everything looks lovely, as always. :) The green tablecloth caught my eye, because my mother had one very much like it (oh, the '70's!) I may have it stashed somewhere. Maybe it's time to bring it out and revive it!

  7. Your tablescape looks amazing! Such personality. And I am a firm believer that there is no way anything brought in from nature can look bad. I love the moss and flowers and branches. It turned out beautiful and I am certain your family loved it.
