There's this little play idea going around on Pinterest called "Cloud Dough". Sounds lovely doesn't it? Well, I saved the idea to do with Anna Ruth. As always, I try to do a new activity with her every week or so...sometimes more, sometimes less. The directions said to mix 8 cups flour with 1 cup baby oil, which we did. Anna even got to pour and stir, much to her delight. I knew this stuff would be messy (which I usually don't mind-I love a happy mess!) so I put the trash bag underneath just in case.
During the playtime......Anna loved this stuff and jumped right in! With both feet, almost literally. See her flour-coated socks?
Annnnd...this was the "after". The funny thing is you can't even see the mounds of cloud dough coating the floor that made it nowhere near the trash bag. This stuff was so messy! Teetering on the brink of an "unhappy mess". As in, it was in the grout in our kitchen tile...and Anna Ruth had walked all around the dining room in her flour socks and I was nursing Betsy so I was somewhat stuck on the floor while the flour sprinkled everywhere. All over the house really.
(are you neat freaks stressed out reading this yet? )
The GOOD news is Anna thoroughly enjoyed herself. Like-loved it! And usually my girl doesn't like a mess. Plus, after a good sweep and vacuum session the house looked normal....even better than when I started actually. So, the word on cloud dough is-wait until you need your floors cleaned anyway and let your kiddos have fun with it!
Or, take it outside. Because by the end of the clean-up Cloud Dough had redeemed itself as a "happy mess." :)
This looks fun! I made "snow" for my kiddos a couple of weeks ago.. its 2 cups cornstarch, and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of vegetable oil..also I added glitter. It wasnt as messy...kind of like wierd playdough??? My kids loved it though!! I will try the cloud dough soon..
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I will have to try your idea with Anna too! :) Love your blog. I think we would be friends in "real life", lol :)
