DIY Play Kitchen Makeover!

I have the most generous sisters!  Both my older sister and twin had children before me.  This means there are lots of items they are through with and they are so good to ask me if I want them for our family.  I appreciate this a lot!  My older sister was going to get rid of their play kitchen and knew Anna Ruth didn't have one yet.  She asked me if I would like it for her.  Of course, I said yes!  I never knew brand new play kitchens were so expensive!

I made up my mind to use tubes of paint found on the craft aisle and some hard work to give the kitchen a mini makeover for Anna Ruth!
My goal was to have the kitchen finished before Betsy Grace was born.  I thought it would be nice to have a "big girl" item in the house, special for Anna Ruth to play with since we'd be home more than normal at first.  I was so pleased with how the kitchen turned out!

I used the mini bottles of paint found at Wal-Mart or Joann's...any craft store really.  It took several coats (at least 2 or 3) to cover it well.  I also sewed the stove burners by layering pieces of felt on top of each other.  I then hot-glued them down to the kitchen.  (Anna Ruth thinks these are a big sticker and has been trying to pull one up so we'll see how long that lasts, lol)
The black paint on the refrigerator is actually chalkboard paint! Just waiting for a happy message....
I saved random food boxes from our kitchen (Kashi cereal, raisin box, spice containers, etc.) and bought some pots and pans at the thrift store to go along with the kitchen.  I also ordered a felt sandwich set from Melissa and Doug on amazon.  Anna Ruth has enjoyed this kitchen so much!  She has already played with it for hours.
It is funny how much she imitates what I do in the kitchen.  They are watching our every move!

  2. Glad you liked it :). It was definitely time consuming (and a bit challenging with my preggo belly-lol), but seeing how much my girl enjoys it made it worth it. I'm just waiting for the right time to show her the chalk...many lessons will need to be had over not writing on the walls nearby I'm sure. :)
